The Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Singapore (“AMMS”, “we”, “us” or “our”) is a registered charity in Singapore (UEN S90CC0733J). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data in connection with this public website, and the rights available to you under the Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (the “PDPA”).
You can read this website without telling us who you are. We do not require you to register, and we do not run advertising, analytics or tracking on these pages.
This policy should be read together with our Terms of Service.
1. Our Data Protection Officer
As required by section 11(3) of the PDPA, we have appointed a Data Protection Officer (“DPO”) responsible for our compliance with the Act. Contact the DPO about anything in this policy, including to make an access, correction or withdrawal request, or to raise a complaint:
- Attention: Data Protection Officer, Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Singapore
- Email: mail@ahmadiyya.org.sg
- Phone: +65 6344 8241
- Address: Masjid Taha, 118 Onan Road, Singapore 424530
2. What we collect from visitors
2.1 Technical data
Our servers and infrastructure providers automatically record limited technical information when you request a page: your IP address, browser and device type, the pages requested, and the date and time of the request. This is used to serve the site, keep it secure and diagnose faults. We do not use it to build a profile of you or to identify you.
2.2 Enquiries
If you contact us by email or telephone using the details on our Contact page, we receive whatever you choose to tell us — typically your name, your contact details and the substance of your enquiry — and we keep a record of that correspondence so that we can respond and follow up.
2.3 What we do not collect
This website has no public sign-up, no newsletter subscription, no comment facility and no public donation form. We do not collect payment details on this website. We do not buy personal data, and we do not receive visitor data from advertising networks or data brokers.
3. Why we use it
- to deliver, maintain and secure this website;
- to detect, investigate and prevent misuse or attacks;
- to respond to your enquiries and keep a record of them; and
- to comply with applicable law and lawful requests.
We rely on your consent, and on the deemed consent and legitimate interests provisions of the PDPA, for these purposes. If we ever want to use your personal data for a purpose not described here, we will notify you and, where the PDPA requires it, obtain your consent first.
We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
4. Cookies and local storage
We keep this to a minimum. This website uses no advertising cookies, no tracking pixels and no third-party analytics.
- Theme preference — your choice of light or dark mode is saved in your browser’s local storage. It stays on your device and is never sent to us.
- Authentication cookies — strictly necessary cookies are set by our authentication provider only if you sign in to the members’ area. They maintain your session and protect against cross-site request forgery. Browsing the public pages does not set them.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking the strictly necessary cookies will prevent signing in, but will not affect the public pages.
5. Service providers and overseas transfers
We use a small number of technology providers to host and operate this website. They act on our instructions under contract and are not permitted to use personal data for their own purposes. Some of them store or process data on servers outside Singapore.
In accordance with the Transfer Limitation Obligation under the PDPA, we take reasonable steps to ensure that any recipient outside Singapore is bound by legally enforceable obligations to provide a standard of protection comparable to that under the PDPA. This is achieved through the contractual terms we accept with those providers.
6. How we protect personal data
We make reasonable security arrangements to protect personal data against unauthorised access, collection, use, disclosure, copying, modification or disposal. These include encryption in transit (HTTPS), encryption at rest with our providers, authenticated and role-based access to any non-public area, and restricting access to those with an operational need to know.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a data breach occurs that results in, or is likely to result in, significant harm to affected individuals or is of significant scale, we will notify the Personal Data Protection Commission (“PDPC”) and affected individuals as required by Part VIA of the PDPA.
7. How long we keep it
Under the Retention Limitation Obligation we cease to retain personal data once it no longer serves any legal or business purpose. Technical logs are kept for a short period for security and diagnostics. Correspondence is kept for as long as needed to deal with the matter and any follow-up, and then disposed of.
8. Your rights
- Access — you may ask what personal data we hold about you and how it has been used or disclosed in the past year. We respond as soon as reasonably possible, ordinarily within 30 days; if we cannot, we will tell you when we expect to respond. We may charge a reasonable fee and will tell you the amount beforehand.
- Correction — you may ask us to correct an error or omission in your personal data.
- Withdrawal of consent — you may withdraw consent to our collection, use or disclosure of your personal data on reasonable notice. We will tell you the likely consequences. Withdrawal does not affect processing already carried out, and we may retain data where the law requires or permits it.
Send requests to the DPO using the details in section 1. We may need to verify your identity first, so that personal data is not disclosed to someone with no right to receive it.
9. Marketing and Do Not Call
We do not send commercial marketing messages, and we do not add enquirers to any mailing list without being asked to. We observe the Do Not Call provisions in Part IX of the PDPA in relation to Singapore telephone numbers.
10. Children
These public pages are not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them here. If you believe a child has sent us personal data through an enquiry, contact the DPO and we will deal with it.
11. Other websites
This website links to other sites, including alislam.org and the websites of affiliated Ahmadiyya organisations. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices. Please read the privacy policy of any website you visit.
12. The members’ area
Separately from this public website, AMMS maintains a members’ area used by members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Singapore for membership records, contributions and community submissions. There is no public sign-up: access is granted by AMMS to members it has identified.
The personal data handled in the members’ area is covered by a separate Members’ Terms & Privacy Notice, available within the members’ area itself and provided to each member when their access is granted. If you are a member and would like a copy, contact the DPO.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices or the law. The revised version takes effect when posted on this page and the “last updated” date above will change.
14. Complaints
If you are concerned about how we have handled your personal data, please contact our DPO first — we would like the chance to put it right. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the PDPC at pdpc.gov.sg.
